California Thoughts

The weather in California this weekend was ridiculous with no humidity. The air was so fresh with hints of mary jane. We went into Hollywood and caught Jimmy Kimmel Live. We had 2nd row seats for the show. There was a lot of clapping and fake laughing. Erik Estrada was a surprise guest on the show. Kimmel needs to go outside more, he looked a little pale or had too much make-up on. We went outside and caught the musical guest which was Slightly Stoopid. KROQ knew about this so there were a ton of high school kids there just for Slightly Stoopid. I guess they are the new Sublime. Brody Jenner was on the side of the stage, VIP Style, god he's cool! People there love to bike ride by the beach. My sister convinced us to go from Hermosa Beach to Venice Beach which was 13 miles there and 13 back. The views of the Pacific Ocean were amazing. There were some surfer bros out there doing it up. We walked around Venice and saw a skate park, robots, and head shops. People were also boxing, playing basketball, paddle ball, and hand ball. There is also a gym outside with bleachers by it which is why they call it Muscle Beach. Some guy was wearing a purple speedo while lifting weights and trying really hard to be like "The Situation." The mexican food in Cali is on point. The breakfast burritos are top notch. I also had some Fat Tire beer which is only sold on the West Coast. The 22oz one is where it's at. We had dinner at this place called Fusion Sushi. I'm pretty sure Lady Gaga was at the table next to us. The blonde hair, white corset, miny top hat, and limo were dead giveaways. We met some of my sister's soccer friends one night. They have a different handshake then your traditional one. The Cali Handshake is a slap followed by a fist bump. I played some outdoor Hermosa Sports which included tennis and beach volleyball. Then went to a bar called Barnacles. They had a very friendly bartender who made an absurd jager bomb and knew 12 kinds of mind erasers. The playlist was a great classic rock blend. Overall, a solid weekend was had by all.

My Dad's Thoughts Corner

My dad's thoughts on a recent picture of Heidi Montag(The Hills): "Are you sure that is Heidi, she doesn’t look anything like her…the last cycle of work has left her rather vanilla and now the album & the surgeons have left her broke! How long will Spencer stand for this $ loss…at least she can still hit the pole in Vegas"

My dad still announces games for W.T. Woodson. He does girls basketball and the guys lacrosse games. A couple of years ago a street near Long Branch decided to put in 2 huge speed bumps. That street is El James Drive. They put one speed bump at the bottom of the hill and one at the top of it. It really is a little too much. My dad has started a tradition that everytime he comes home from a game, he tosses an empty Diet Coke out the window at the bottom of the hill as he goes over the speed hump. I recently took El James the other day to see this and there is a huge graveyard of Diet Cokes. It's just one of the many things that makes me laugh!

Hockey Fights Galore

Players of the two Russian youth ice hockey teams - Penguins and the Northern Star - are trying to keep pace with professionals in all aspects. 9-year-old stars have proved - ice hockey is one of the toughest games to play no matter what age you are. A regular game between Russia's young Penguins and Stars turned into all-in massive fight on ice. As a result - 707 minutes of penalty. Truly a rare record the NHL not always witness.

Tortorella got testy with Brooks after the reporter inquired about a "fight" between Daniel Carcillo and Rangers star Marian Gaborik (about 2:10 in), and why none of Gaborik's teammates defended him at the time. The Larry Brooks Look of Death at the brave soul who laughed in the back of the scrum is now burned into our collective memory.

"What is that all about?" As for Carcillo vs. Gaborik, here's the incident:

Avery would later get his shot at Carcillo, about seven minutes after the Gaborik fight:

Thoughts

Lame Kiffin is a snake. Julian Edelman is the new Wes Welker. Darrelle Revis should have been the Defensive Player of the Year. Brett Favre still has that mojo. Sidney Rice and Marques Colston are big time wideouts. Kurt Warner is a HOF Quarterback. I would like to see a Saints-Colts or Vikings-Jets Super Bowl. Glee should not have won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series, Musical, or Comedy; it should have been The Office. If loving the Jersey Shore is wrong, I don't want to be right. Ke$ha is the new Miley. Heidi Montag will soon be a plastic doll. Steve Nash is a hockey player in a basketball players body. The Capitals are the best team in the Eastern Conference. I hate people that talk during movies. I don't like waiting in long lines. A Bear Fight is not really a smart decision. I still love Jager Bombs. I respect the Union Jack's bouncers now. Blue Jesus is pretty good. Rock Star is an underrated movie. I donated 10 bucks to Haiti and so should you.

A New Maria

In honor of the Australian Open starting yesterday, a new Maria emerges. Maria Kirilenko upsets #14 Maria Sharapova 7-6(7-4), 3-6, 6-4. She's not bad on the eyes either!

Lane Kiffin to USC

1. Good news for Urban Meyer's health; his blood pressure just dropped 20 points on this news.
2. Don't let the SEC door hit you in the ass! He must be very afraid of losing to Meyer, Saban, and all the real SEC teams!!!
3. It only cost USC $800k to get him out of UT, which is still too much for a crappy coach.
4. So a school facing serious NCAA sanctions brings in a coach who appears to make a game out of accumulating violations? I don't think I want to miss a minute of this!
5. But I thought he wanted to sing Rocky Top all night long???

Then there is this:

And this:

Pete Carrolling

verb; [peet kar-uhl]; Pete Carr-oll, Pete Carr-olled, Pete Carr-olling
1. To get out while the going is good, in a two-faced, cowardly manner.
2. To gain advantage, often through underhanded means, and then to escape with cowardice while leaving others to deal with the repercussions.

1. That USC coach is Pete Carrolling his way to Seattle before the shit hits the fan at USC.
2. After receiving gifts and money under the table, Reggie Bush (and now Joe McKnight) Pete Carrolled to the NFL before they could get in trouble with the NCAA.
3. OJ Mayo went Pete Carrolling at Tim Floyd's house.

Wild Card Weekend

Saturday at 4:30pm on NBC: New York Jets @ Cincinnati Bengals.
The Jets beat them 37-0 in the last meeting. I think this game will come down to each teams running games. The Bengals feature Cedric Benson and the Jets feature Thomas Jones, Shonn Greene, and Brad Smith. Advantage: Jets. Now, the quarterbacks, Carson Palmer had a bad game last week. I expect him to have a better game plus he has playoff experience. Mark Sanchez had a great game last week vs the Bengals. This will be his first playoff game and it's on the road. Advantage: Bengals. The Jets have a great defense that includes Darrelle Revis. I'm pretty sure they are the top defense in the NFL. The Bengals defense will be without Rey Maualuga and Roy Williams who are both injured. They get back Chris Crocker, Robert Geathers, and Domata Peko on defense tho. Advantage: Jets. Match-up to watch: Chad Ochocinco vs Darrelle Revis.
Pick: Jets 20 Bengals 13

Saturday at 8:00pm on NBC: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys beat them 24-o in the last meeting. Both teams have strong running games. The Eagles feature LeSean McCoy and Brian Westbrook and the Cowboys feature Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Advantage: Cowboys. Now, the quarterbacks, Donovan McNabb had a bad game last week. I expect him to have a much better game plus he has a ton of playoff experience. He will have to find Desean Jackson and Brent Celek more. Tony Romo had a great game last week. He will have to hook up with Jason Witten a lot if they want to win this game. Advantage: Eagles. Both defenses are very good. The Eagles will have to blitz more in this game in my opinion. Advantage: Even. The Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since 1996. I think that streak will continue. Match-up to watch: Austin Miles vs Asante Samuel.
Pick: Eagles 28 Cowboys 24

Sunday at 1:00pm on CBS: Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots.
Both of these teams did not play last week. The Ravens beat the Raiders and the Patriots lost to the Texans. Both teams have great running games. The Ravens feature Ray Rice, Willis McGahee, and Le'Ron McClain and the Patriots feature Laurence Maroney, Fred Taylor, and Sammy Morris. Advantage: Ravens. Now, the quarterbacks, Joe Flacco has had a great season. His favorite target is Derrick Mason. He can't afford any turnovers in this one. Tom Brady is back in the playoffs, after being out last season. He still has Randy Moss but will be without his favorite wideout Wes Welker. Julian Edelman will take his place. He actually looks like a Wes Welker clone which is good for the Pats. Advantage: Patriots. The Ravens defense had been outstanding all year. They are led by Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. The Patriots defense has been shakey at times this year. They will get back Vince Wilfolk and Ty Warren which should help. Advantage: Ravens. Match-up to watch: Randy Moss vs Domonique Foxworth.
Patriots 20 Ravens 17

Sunday at 4:30pm on FOX: Green Bay Packers @ Arizona Cardinals.
The Packers beat them 33-7 in the last meeting. Both teams have pretty good running attacks. The Packers feature Ryan Grant and the Cardinals feature Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells. Ryan Grant had a career day in the last meeting by scoring 2 TD's. Hightower is the x-factor cuz he can run it and catch it. Advantage: Packers. Now, the quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers has been on fire lately. He will need to be on his A-game again to beat a tough Cards defense. I think Greg Jennings and Donald Driver will have big games. Kurt Warner alive and still kicking. He led the Cardinals to the Super Bowl last year, can he do it again? Larry Fitzgerald will have to step up because Anquan Boldin will likely be out. Advantage: Cardinals. Both defenses feature great cornerbacks and safeties. The Cards have Adrian Wilson and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and the Packers have Charles Woodson and Al Harris. Advantage: Even. Matchups to watch: Larry Fitzgerald vs Al Harris and Greg Jennings vs Adrian Wilson.
Pick: Packers 31 Cardinals 21

Ratings were based on Quarterbacks, Running Backs, and Defense.

Download of the Month

Broken Bells is a collaborative project between Brian Burton(Danger Mouse) and James Mercer(The Shins). The album is called "Dark Night of the Soul." It will feature ten songs and comes out March 9th through Columbia. This is the first single "The High Road." One of the best songs i've heard in awhile. Enjoy!

Nissan Pavilion is dead

Then: Hey bros you wanna go see Radiohead at Nissan this weekend?

Now: Hey bros you wanna go see Radiohead at Jiffy Lube Live this weekend?

It might be the worst corporate venue name I've ever seen.

Jiffy Lube Live sounds like a touring ice show where the cast of characters perform elaborate ice dances simulating oil changes, lube jobs, pipe cleanings and other double entendre's.

Some people claim I have "Shifty Eyes." Maybe but one of the reasons I used them was in lacrosse. I could see my teammates out of the corner of my eye. Peripheral vision is what they call it. Always one step ahead of the defense was my goal. I for one think they are a good thing to have and I don't care what you think!

3 Things I Think

1. Mike Shanahan will be the next head coach of the Washington Redskins. I like the staff he is putting together which will include Kyle Shanahan(Houston Texans Offensive Coordinator) and Mike Zimmer(Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Coordinator).

2. Here is Desean Jackson's tweet after the Cowboys game, "Got smashed by them cowboys 2daaaaaay sheeeeesh its all good we gonna sting they ass next week lil buddy." Ebonics is "illiterate speak" plain and simple, swapping the use of plural tense is not a language, it is pure stupidity and ignorance.

3. Soundgarden is back! Superunknown is one of the best rock albums of the 90's. Hoping for a Pearl Jam/Soundgarden Summer Tour.

Some Thoughts

Gilbert Arenas is an idiot. Auburn had to beat Northwestern 3 times. Northwestern was trying to be like Boise State on the fake field goal and failed miserably. Favorite quote by pretty Ricky during the game, "the ball caused the fumble." I am glad Bobby Bowden went out a winner. Andrew from the Real World DC is sarcastic and hilarious. I enjoyed Avatar, the storyline and special effects were amazing. I shouldn't push people, i will work on that one. The vodka cooler is always trouble. Neimo loves VT and picking people up. Grabowski's New Years scarf is a fashion do. I think Tommy Cheeseballs from True Life should make an appearance on the Jersey Shore show. Julian Casablancas is talented. The Caps should play in the Winter Classic next year. I love my new Under Armour longsleeve mock. I also love my new phone, the Samsung Rogue! Esposito's is fine dining. Soundgarden is reuniting after a 12 year break!

I Can't Get Behind That
